Chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) Upendra Yadav has said the verdict given by the Supreme Court on vice president Parmananda Jha's Hindi swearing-in is not in tandem with democratic values.

Speaking to journalists in Sunsari on Saturday, Yadav also claimed the verdict is "unconstitutional and flawed".

Describing the vedict as one-sided, the MJF chief said it does not reflect the spirit of Nepal being a garden of all languages and ethnic groups. The apex court, he said, could not uphold that spirit while deciding the case.

However, leader of another faction of the MJF and minister for tourism Sarad Singh Bhandari said vice president Paramananda Jha must abide by the court verdict.

Speaking in Pokhara today, Bhandari said being a law expert, Jha must respect the court verdict and retake oath in Nepal language as stated in the constitution.

A division bench of Chief Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Justice Balram KC on Friday gave a verdict on the case, declaring that the oath taken by VP Jha in Hindi language last year was unconstitutional. nepalnews.com
