Information About The Job:
The Division of Water Resources is a small agency that promotes the protection, conservation, and development of Colorado's water resources. This work unit administers the State's water resources in accordance with the priority system and interstate compacts and to maximize the beneficial use of water in accordance with the Colorado Revised Statutes, court decrees, and the State Engineer's policies, rules and regulations. The work unit exists to serve the needs of the public and to conserve, protect, develop, and to maximize the beneficial use of the State's present and future water supplies by conducting the engineering studies and analyses needed to support the decisions of the State Engineer and the Division Engineers in administering water in the areas of well permit issuance, Senate Bill 35 subdivision water supply plan reviews, monthly water court resume reviews, determinations of facts, presumptive findings, water court case negotiations and trials, substitute water supply plan reviews, and public assistance for Water Division 7.

DUTIES: This position exists to measure the flow of water in streams, canals, and ditches by applying standard streamflow measurement tools and techniques; to collect, compute, analyze, record and report streamflow data and relationships at assigned locations; to service, calibrate, monitor and operate stream gaging equipment and instruments, including electronic data collection and telemetry hardware; to assist other staff engineers in the compilation of official records of water flow for assigned stations/locations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering. Course work or work experience in engineering, hydrogeology, and/or water administration.

SUBSTITUTIONS: Enrollment as an Engineer-Intern by the Colorado Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors may be substituted for the required degree.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado driver's license.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access is highly desirable as well as knowledge of computer modeling related to ground water and surface water. Knowledge of Colorado Water Law and water administration.
