You can restore the iPhone by DFU mode setting. It is very easy way to restore the iPhone and make new iPhone new setting will delete all pervious data and information, and it will work as new bought. iPhone OS 3.0 is free for iPhone so that it is not big deal to update it. If you are using different sim card which doesn't have iPhone data plan ( AT&T's 3G data plan for iPhone), try Jailbreak software to unlock the iPhone...
