MAOISTS "TERRORISTS" TERRIFYING THE NATION


KATHMANDU, June 21 - The activists of Unified CPN (Maoist) clashed with the security personnel at various places across the country while picketing the government offices as part of their scheduled protest against the government, on Sunday.


The Maoist cadres and supporters gheraoed the government offices across the country for two hours from 10 am today, protesting against the government move to overturn the decision made by the Maoist-led government.A Maoist supporter shouts anti-government slogan outside the Ministry of Local Development in Lalitpur, on Sunday.

Dozens of security personnel and Maoist activists have been injured in the episodes across the country.

Meanwhile, the local administration has clamped curfew in the district headquarters and adjoining areas in Dhading as the situation worsened in the district after the security personnel clashed with the Maoists who attacked the District Development Committee and injured an officer.

Also, a police officer and about two dozen protestors were injured in the

clash.

District Administration Offices (DAOs) have been vandalised in many districts during the sit-in for two hours from 10 am, while market places were forced to close down in some places.

In capital itself, the Singhadurbar area was tensed for a while.

Traffic movement was affected in the capital due to the protests.

The Maoist activists did not even leave obstructing pedestrian in the Singhadurbar area while picketing the Kathmandu DAO.

In Ilam, about half a dozen government offices have been vandalised.

The Maoist cadres forced to shut down Ilam Bazar after two demonstrators were detained for involvement in vandalism.

Similarly, two police personnel have been injured in the ruckus at the Rastriya Bankjya Bank and five protestors at the DAO in Baitadi.

The police shelled three rounds of tear gas to contain the situation.

In Mahottari district headquarters Jaleshwor, a clash ensued after the security personnel tried to open the government offices padlocked by the Maoist men.

Also in Kavre, four Maoist supporters have been injured while clashing with the police.

Two Maoist men have been injured in a clash with security personnel while trying to padlock government offices at Manthali in Ramechhap.

The protestors also vandalised government offices in Taplejung.

The Maoist activists vandalised education, postal, animal care, telecommunications offices among others accusing of ‘defying the closure.’

Meanwhile, they have padlocked the DAO with Chief District Officer Ramu Prasad Upadhyaya and other workers still inside.

Although the sit-in was scheduled until 12, they have announced to not let the employees come out until 5 pm.

Similarly, some 30 people including local residents were locked inside Rastriya Banijya Bank for two hours after they padlocked it.

The Maoist activists also attacked the employees of Eastern Regional Health Headquarters accusing them of entering the office. They also vandalised the office.

The Maoist politburo meeting Saturday decided to stage sit-in at all major government offices including district administration offices to disrupt the bureaucratic works.

The Home Ministry had issued directives to the concerned authorities to counter the possible commotion. The ministry also directed the district administrative offices to maintain peace and security.
