SSB ‘pulls down’ Susta bridge

Kantipur Report
NAWALPARASI, June 10 - Indian
border security force Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB) has allegedly
dismantled a bridge in Susta of Nawalparasi district on Tuesday.

A
group of about 60 SSB personnel entered Nepali territory and pulled
down the bridge under construction at Susta, claiming that the physical
infrastructure cannot be built there since it falls in the disputed
border area.

According to locals, the SSB men were from Chakdarhawa, Rampurwa and Balmikinagar camps in India.

“Security
personnel of Nepali side did not intervene when the SSB men entered
Nepali side and destroyed the bridge being constructed with the
financial assistance from District Development Committee,” said Gopal
Gurung, chairman of Save Susta Campaign.

Awaken
by the incident, a delegation from Susta on Tuesday met with Balkrishna
Panthi Chief District Officer (CDO) of Nawalparasi and informed him
about the incident.

The team also submitted a memorandum to the government through Panthi demanding immediate investigation into the matter

and security to the people.

CDO
Panthi assured that he would appeal to the concerned authorities to
convene a meeting with Indian officials to resolve the Susta problem.
