What ANS is saying is only partially correct. Reveling in the misfortune of others is not just a Nepali thing, but a global one. The germans even had a word for it: "schadenfreude". We think all Nepalis are like that, but Nepalis are all we know. What do we really know about the rest of the world? I bet they are the same way or worse, and it's probably more an individual nature than pecific to a culture.

What I do think is true about our culture is the "leg pulling" phenomenon if you choose to label it as such. And I think if you boil it down, it's just the "survival of the fittest" instincts kicking in. There is so little resources to go around, we instinctively do anything we can to make sure we get it before it's gone. Unfortunately it is the result of AND cause of our poverty. I bet it's the same situation in every impoverished countries.

Point is, it's not about being Nepali, it's about being human and being poor. Let's try not to give "Nepali" such a bad rep. Pride is all we have.
