Sensei Ambar Bahadur Rai is from Okhaldhunga. During his school days, one of the Indian Army (Boxer) happened to introduce him to martial arts and he was eager to learn the art from then. He came to Singapore in 1989. Karate instructor Sensei Hom Nath Gurung who is 4th Dan Black belt in Kyukoshin Karate introduced him to the martial art. Kyokushin Karate, a full contact Karate is well known for its tough training. He faced lots of full contact sparring in his early days when he was just white belt. But this is what makes all Kyokushin fighters strong, both mentally and physically. During his free time, sensei Rai started to train in Kyokushin Karate. He joined Kyukushin Karate in Gurkha Contingent Dojo in the year 1990.

He achieved his 1st Dan Black Belt in 1993. Currently he is 2nd incharge of the Gurkha Contingent Dojo.
He is also the committee members of Singapore Oyama Karate-do Kyokushinkai-kan.

Sensei Ambar Bahadur Rai Participated Tournaments are:

   1. Singapore international Open Karate national selection tournament 1992.
   2. Fighter in International Open Karate tournament at Singapore Indoor stadium 23-24 Oct 1992.
   3. Singapore open Karate tournament 1995.
   4. Oyama Karate Full-contact knock-down tournament 2000.

He has the following experiences for officiating:

   1. Official at 9th World Open Karate Tournament Tokyo, Japan 16-18 Nov 2007
   2. World Kyokushin Karate seminar at Mount Mitsumine, Japan 19-21 Nov 2007
   3. Kyokushin Karate seminar and 3rd Dan upgrading test in Shanghai, China 5-10 Jun 2008
   4. Organizing committee in the 11th Asia Full Contact Karate Championship Singapore 25th Oct 2008
