Last month, the government decided to extend the VDIS deadline by a month following intense pressure from business entrepreneurs.
The Ministry of Finance informed that until Thursday, about Rs 410 million had come under the purview of tax and Rs 40 million had been collected as tax.
The government so far has collected about Rs 1.9 billion from the VDIS, which the Maoist-led government had decided to implement for the fiscal year 2008/9.
Speaking at a programme in the capital, acting secretary (Revenue) at the Finance Ministry, Krishna Hari Baskota, said the private sectors have unnecessarily tried to drag the government efforts into controversy adding that the government has intended to bring property within the tax boundary by enforcing VDIS.
He assured the public that the revenue collected via VDIS will be used for the development works.
