Is Slumdog worthy of so much praise ?

Blame the fans and critics who hail Danny Boyle as a neo messiah of English movies. I agree with mxyz about the more than necessary adulation Slumdog Millionaire garnered over the month. Dan overdid with the poverty-portrayal of India. Also, the story plot looks no different than any other Manmohan Desai flick. Cindrella story no longer comes true even in the the land of Desis, the plot of destiny and drama in the wake of movies like Dil Chahta hai has long become arcane, not everybody lives in fool's paradise. The pivotal part of slumdog however was, the way he reaches out to reply to the questions by recollecting incidents in the retrospect, that is indeed laudable.

But then why loathe American Beauty? It was one of the best movies in the history of Hollywood. Agreed, I lost credibility in Academy award when Denzel Washington was awarded oscar for "Training Day" (great actor he is, but he was clearly outperformed by Russel Crowe in 'A beautiful mind' that year), but American beauty depicts the crux of American life and it was very well made. I understand that 70 percent of Nepalese youth, who watch hollywood flicks want movies like 'Fight Club' or 'Blow' to win an oscar, but belligerently sublime acting is not always regarded as the highest epitome of histrionics. Kevin Spacey is a classy actor, and fares well amongs critics than Pitt, Depp, Farell and Damon.
