I think u r in a much better shape that those who have their H1B but still unable to find their job. Like all other suggestions above, I also suggest you to find the entry level positions in the IT field. There is no gurantee that you'll get job even if you get your H1B. So , I suggest you not to waste your time and start finding your job on OPT. I believe you also know that www.craigslist.org is the best job site for applying to the jobs from the direct employer. And, though you are in a consultancy right now, you can still apply to those jobs (entry level/mid level positions) and doesn't even have to worry about the 3-months OPT rule at the moment. And once you get your job, you can leave that consultancy anytime you want. You don't even have to worry about their contract.
