US embassy cautions visa applicants over fake documents

As fraud cases in obtaining visa for United States increase, the US embassy in Kathmandu has asked those applying for visa to be alert.

According to information given by the embassy officials on Friday, 10 percent applications are rejected every day because of fake education documents which are provided by the consultancies to those applying for student visas. And those applying for tourist visa submit fake financial documents.

"We hear stories of unscrupulous consultancies offering packets of fake financial documents for sale or schemes involving a supposed 'job' in the U.S. for hefty amounts," Consul at U.S. Embassy Mea Arnold said in a press meet.

Arnold asked the individual applicants to make extra effort to get accurate information about the visa process provided free of cost from the US Embassy.

US Ambassador Nancy J Powell said only a consular officer during an interview can determine if an applicant qualifies for a visa to the US. nepalnews.com ia Jan 24 09
