I don't think Indian Bhatta should go.

Think about it: they come from a village in Karnataka (Udupi village?). We select them, and not some South Block or Man Mohan Singh. They are villagers like us. Our ancestors trusted them, and we can trust them.

Dharma is different from nationality. Hinduism is for 1 billion + people. In fact, if Dalai Lama's successor can come from any country, why not Pashupati's pujari? I think we should say any Hindu, even from Guyana or Maritius, if he is prakanda vidwan, if he is capable of running such a great temple, should be allowed to be pujari. We can't be so blindly and unnecessarily patriot.

Of course, we must not let them take all the money. We can make a rule regarding that, and I am sure Bhattas will come around to that. But it is not charitable to kick the Bhattas out of the temple after they have served there from centuries. hamro purkhale ke bhanlan? He worshipped our national deity for so many years, let's give him a little bit respect. If he took money illegally, we should punish him, but otherwise, he deserves our respect.
