AT LAST, THEY REALIZE NEPAL'S EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS ARE BREEDING GROUNDS FOR DIRTY POLITICS WHERE STUDENTS SPEND MORE TIME GOSSIPING THAN STUDYING.

PM admits education sector is plagued by political interference

In what sounded like an honest admission, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Monday said there's been too much of political interference in the education sector and that he wants this sector to remain completely independent.

Ironically, the PM made this remark at the annual assembly of the Tribhuvan University, which had been suspended for three consecutive years due to pressure from his party's student wing, the All Nepal National Independent Students Union- Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), demanding its representation in the assembly.

"Political interference in education sector has caused great harm to the nation," the PM, who is the Chancellor of the TU, said speaking at the assembly in Kirtipur.

Saying that new education policy should aim at ending the vestiges of feudalism, PM Dahal added the current government is committed to making education scientific and vocational.

On the way back from TU's programme, the PM's convoy was stoned by pro-UML students who were staging protest with various demands including cut off in long winter vacation and end to ongoing load-shedding, in front of Trichandra Campus at Ghantaghar.

Though the PM's vehicle passed safely, a car escorting him was hit by stones, but nobody was injured in the incident. nepalnews
