I think they do not have to be pre-approved companies. If it is a small company, it would probably be better asking them to visit http://www.dhs.gov/xprevprot/programs/gc_1185221678150.shtm to register in the program.

Mero case ta.. I am out of luck.  I graduated with a Health Promotion degree (Bachelor of Science).  I didn't even think that it would not fall in STEM program.  When I inquired about OPT extension with my ISS advisor, she told me that Health Promotion is not under STEM. I asked  her, "Health Promotion, Clinical track is pre-med, who are future doctors, if you are telling me that pre-meds are not under science, who can be under science?".  She answered, "You have got the point. But Health Promotion is not under the majors USCIS has provided us at this current time. If there are any changes, we'll let you know.  We are busy with current students, we don't have time to deal with the graduate students' problems." I said thanks and hung up.
