Charlse Shobraj's Newly Wed Bride .....

I attended the Sobhraj-Biswas wedding ceremony with a friend of mine who somehow happened to know Nihita. A number of friends and family members of the couple had gathered in the well guarded prison cell. The crowd had to obtain a special permission from the prison authorities to have so many visitors at a single go.

Soon after exchanging tika offering, vows and performing the rituals, people started singing some songs with the only instrument of a 'maadal'  to mark the scanty ceremony. With her face beaming, Nihita on occasions had confided to my friend that Charles was very keen at learning more about Nepalese culture. She had added that he tuned his radio to the station that plays folk music at every opportunity he got. After much persuasion by the attendees the couple also joined in the singing with the song "Resham Firiri". Nihita sang the part "Ek naale banduk dui naale banduk mrigalaai taakeko". Then the guests were completely caught off-guard when the alleged-serial-murderer jumped up to his feet and gestured as if he was holding a gun and pointed to his new bride singing "Mrigalaai maile taakeko hoina maayaa lai taakeko'..

Then my alarm clock went off. That was the last weird dream I had ever expected. Oh what a night!
