Firstly I want to let you all know that I am a Nepali guy, and I know the problems and confusions generalizations can create in society, and I stand up against it at every possible occassion. Now to reply to hmmm... >> Generalization goes everywhere. Nepali guys are like that, Nepali girls are like that, Nepali culture is like this, American culture is like that. That is exactly what is meant by generalization dude, just because you generalize people does not mean ALL Nepali guys and ALL Nepali girls and the WHOLE of Nepali and American culture is like that. >>Is it Nepali bashing, if we say Nepali are poor? Even some Nepali are rich. Yes, if you know that some Nepalese are rich and still say that ALL Nepalese are poor then that would be a generalzation ( I won't call it a bashing). >>I am tired of this "feminist rheotoric" used at every occasion, I am tired of this "political correctness" and rightousness. Firstly, voice against generalization is not a "feminist rhetoric". And, if you are making claims about a group or a part of society, you have to be "politically correct" to be taken seriously. If you are tired of doing it, people will get tired reading your crap. >>I think you guys should sometimes smell the air you are breathing. Its a human nature to find difference amongst different groups of people. Its human nature to judge other people. Exactly! YOU should sometimes smell the air you are breathing. Learn to see the differences between groups and appreciate it. Don't judge people by some preconceptions and prejudices. >>Talking about differences usually gaps the bridge. Its not only me, but a lot of people who were raised up in Nepal do think that American women are superficial (generally speaking), they seem to value "showy", "flashy" things more than the meaning of life. Your use of "a lot of people" and "generally speaking" helps to reduce the generalization you are making. But note that these views are views of only people YOU have met (and not everyone) and that are also made by THEIR experience (not everyone's) with SOME american girls( not ALL american girls) they have met. I hope you saw my point here. I am surprised myself how you could make such claims about American women. I have many american friends who do not use make ups at all and some who use moderate amount and some who use excessively. Its just a matter of personal opinion and its ridiculous using only a fraction to portray the entire and yet diverse group. >>There are numerous problem with Nepali men-- I agree, and if you point them out, I would not go willy-nilly saying you are bashing Nepali men. Getting a different point of view of you or your ethnicity maybe will help in the self-realization process. I too agree that there are numerous problems with Nepali men, and I too would not go willy nilly saying anyone is bashing Nepali Men. But how are you giving a different point of view if you are just repeating stereotypic thougts and preconceived notions? Give me one different perspective YOU have, which is different from what you believe EVERYONE thinks, and maybe that will really help understanding et hnicity -or whatever. >>So don't try and act to be a femminist, just be yourself and stop whinning. WHOA! what was that? "just be yourself" huh? what is this "self" you are referring to? The same "self" that you expect EVERYONE should have based on your preconceptions? Are these people not being their"self" just because they did not appear to be what YOU expected them to be? And about "stop whining" thing, isn't it also one of the generalizations that women whine a lot? Personally,I am surprised how you could make such claims about American women and other groups. I have many american friends who do not use make ups at all and some who use moderate amount and some who use excessively. Its just a matter of personal opinion and its ridiculous using only a fraction to portray the entire and yet diverse group. And if you think what is wrong with generalizations, read the thread and outbrusts against bahuns and other ethinic groups of Nepal. What do you think is the cause of all those racial slanders?
