Hi ,

From 8th of April 2008, USICS has released new rules and regulations for OPT,

I am sure many of you (OPT) guys know this??

Under present Scenario, OPT’s Students must get placement within 90 days of their OPT otherwise they will stand a chance to lose their visa status.

What counts as time unemployed?

Each day during the period when OPT authorization begins and ends that the student does not have qualifying employment counts as a day of unemployment.

It means that from day one of their OPT start date is counted as employment if they are not placed means they unemployed,

Most students prefer training with placement program after their graduation, and most consulting firms do provide training with placement programs.

But now students will end up 8-10 weeks of their opt duration on training itself and another 10-12 weeks of marketing their resume ,it means more then 90 days are wasted in this ,under such situation how the student maintains his employment status ?

Let’s discuss alternative solutions and how to tackle the present situation for the benefit of students and the company as well. Do share in your views/comments/suggestion as well.
