Hi Ramas!

The first demerit of Lasik Surgery is that it is too expensive. The worst part is that your retina/iris whatever's shape/size changes as you get older- so I have read. If true, it's no permanent fix for your eyes. And after all, there is a saying don't fix it if ain't broke. The general health care mantra is - do not go for an invasive procedure (surgey) if it is not required or if you have other options.

I use contact lens myself but they don't come cheap as compared to traditional glasses. The best deal I have found so far is from visiondirect.com. Last time I filled, I think I paid $20-25 per box with six lenses in each box. That's for Acuvue Oasys meant for disposal after use of two week period (but I stretch the use by a week or so). I love these lenses; "feels like wearing nothing". The other thing you have to bear in mind that the prescription is only good for a year and once your lens supplies run out most lens outlets won't re-fill it if your prescription has expired. And here is the weird part, you have to declare before-hand to the eye-specialist whether the exam is for glasses or contact lens. The resulting prescription can be used only for specific intended purpose. Check that with your doctor for details.

The first few weeks you will feel discomfort and you will be under the observation of an eye specialist. Later you get used to it.

If you happen to be a budget-conscious consumer for now then probably the least expensive way to go is with traditional glasses. If you go that route, I would pick a glass-frame with a classic design.

Hope that helps. And here is a .org website that you might find helpful for a more professional information.
