My 2 cents on the Terai issue..
We should know the history of Nepal, how it emerged; as well as the aspiration and nationalism of the hilly people of Nepal which has preserved its sovereignty and existence, so far.
The ancient history of Nepal can be found in "himbat-khanda" which proves that Nepal existed prior to Mahabharata era.
The great warriors of this country who re-created Nepal as an independent and soverign nation from the clutches of Muslims and British empire, were named as traitors and colonizers by Maoists and CPNUML cadres. They tried to dismantle the statue of Prithivi Narayan Shah and other national icons. Blaming these national icons as colonizers - is plain stupidity. Those who claim that Prithivi Narayan Shah, Bahadur Shah, Amar Singh Thapa, Kuwar Balbhadra are colonizers - are anti nationals as well.
Before 1950s most of Terai was jungle free from human habitat. Population survey was done at the time of Rana prime minister Juddha Sumsheer JBR; that survey shows, the then population of the hilly and non-hilly people which can be accessed in the Statistics Department (tathyanka bhivag.) Only handful of people in Janakpur, Simrongadh, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, some part of Saptari and Biratnagar were habited. Even Bake, Bardia, Kailali, Kanchanpur were inhabited by the British colonizers when they took the land from the dreaded Gurkhas (by Sugali treaty). British requested Rana Jungbahadur not to throw them out after they returned the land back to Nepal.
After 1950 the so called people of "Indian origin" started pouring in Nepal-terai due to open naked Indian intervention in the disguise of Nepali Congress to throw the Rana regime. Later the unscientific land-reform was imposed by King Mahendra and the land owners were forced to sell their land in the hands of the people who came from Bihar and UP.
The current problem of Terai is the creation of the visionless, corrupt and cynical leaders who had no concern for national interest and are henchmen of Indian colonizers. The current demand for Gorkha Land in Darjeeling also shows the pain of Indian colonization of the hilly people in so called greater India. Why is there uprising in Assam, Nagaland, Kashmir etc if the people are not discriminated and not colonized by the Indian imperialism?
Terai people are much more facilitated and economically better off than the hilly people of Nepal. Due to open border they are getting the goods much cheaper and cross border smuggling is a common practice. Those who talk about the discrimination of madhesis has not gone in the villages of Indian side which is less developed than adjoining Nepalese side. Why the people from Bihar and UP are still coming as laborers if they are in better economic position than Nepal? This is nothing but political propoganda of India to put their henchmen in the driving seat of Nepal.
The statement of the (great leader?) GP Koirala when he said "Gananthra (republic) was not the agenda of NC but it was the agenda of Gandhi family" in other words it was the agenda of the uncrowned queen of current India - Sonia Gandhi. It proves deep-rooted Indian infiltration in Nepalese parties and politics. How can you deny that the leaders of big three parties are not influenced by the current ruling parties in India when they are constantly acting against the national interest? I want to ask these madhesis and big leaders of big parties, why the entire Gandak water and Koshi water is going to India, and only a little quantity of water, insufficient for Nepal is released for Nepal. Why the dams of Koshi and Gandak is made in such a way that only serves Idian interest and the Nepalese agricultural land cannot be irrigated which could have been easily irrigated by those two rivers. This also proves how India has already colonized this country for their interest. Lets also not forget the role of India in 1950, when India directly intervened and ruled this country?
There was a widespread propaganda in India that RAW was behind the royal massacre. India was not happy with King Birendra's proposal of Peace Zone and they had told the late king not to attend the BOAO conference in China. India also wanted late king to sign the citizenship bill which he refused to sign has infuriated Indian rulers. Likewise Comrade Madan Bhandary, general secretary of CPNUML was also eliminated due to his nationalistic speech made in Calcutta during communist conference. The people suspect and believe that the RAW was behind it and was the master mind in his so called accident and his unsolved murder.
All the hilly people from Nagaland to Kashmir should be united and fight with India, otherwise the hegemony and colonialist approach of the Indian Government, inherited from British imperialistic culture will never end.
