adjunctprof, you wrote it very nicely. Loved the way you presented it, though the whole situation sucked for you. By the way.... how did you know they were going to buy a Toyota Highlander? Did you overhear them talking over phone? If you did,  you should have asked Dr. Chalise yourself to wait for some time till your passport gets renewed.  Your work was more important than buying a car.
