With the informal tie-up of  CPN (UML) and CPN (M), some rays of hope of better and new Nepal is again rising up. No doubt in one way or the other, congress represents the feudalism. One king is gone but Girija is showing his intensions to become new king aka dictator. The majority of times of last 20 years was ruled by congress and we all know how it functions and it's factured or say corrupt vision. Now we need change and this tie-up could be a milestone in new direction. If the new government could bring some inspiring programs like revolutionary land-reform, something like afno gau afai banau, and some fresh initiatives for the hydro-power projects, it takes no time to turn the tide. Are we ready for the change?

Maoists, UML agree to back each other on President, PM

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, June 20 - The CPN-Maoists and CPN-UML Friday reached an informal agreement to support each other’s bid for the posts of executive Prime Minister and constitutional President in the next government.

The top leaders reached the agreement during a meeting this morning at Hotel Vaishali in Thamel.

Both the communist parties agreed to float a joint proposal at today’s Seven-Party alliance (SPA) meeting in accordance with the understanding.

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and leaders Baburam Bhattarai, Mohan Baidya, and Ram Bahadur Thapa and UML General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal and leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Amrit Kumar Bohara, Bhim Rawal and Ishwor Pokhrel among others were present at the meeting.

As per the agreement, the UML will support the Maoists for Prime Minister while the Maoists will support a UML candidate for the post of a ceremonial President, said UML leader Pokhrel after the meeting.

The meeting aimed at resolving the current political deadlock and reaching a consensus on power sharing had lasted for over three hours.

The Maoists have already proposed the name of their Chairman Dahal for the post of Prime Minister of the next government. The UML is yet to finalize the name of their candidate for the country’s first President. It has been understood that the top communists have agreed on the name of former UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal for the post of President.

Earlier, the Maoists had proposed the name of UML leader Sahana Pradhan for the post of President “as she is a woman and represents the indigenous community.”

However, the Nepali Congress turned suspicious after the two communist parties intensified coordination.

Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala had said that he became the Prime Minister with the consent of SPA and also said that the NC will stay out of the to-be-formed Maoist-led government as the main opposition party if any agreement were made on the basis of ‘mathematical calculation’.

The UML-Maoist meeting took place after the Nepali Congress (NC) showed discontent over the informal agreement between the two parties over the post of president.

Earlier, the NC leaders had said that if the Maoists and UML reached an agreement over the posts of President and Prime Minister then they will not participate in the next government and would assist in drafting the new constitution as the opposition party.

The UML-Maoist meeting also dealt with the issues of vice president, deputy Prime Minister, CA Chairman, 26 CA members yet to be nominated and also the ministerial portfolios of the next government, a UML leader said.

Sources also said that the Maoists have already reached an agreement with the Madhesi People’s Right Forum (MPRF) to give the post of Vice President to MPRF Chairman Upendra Yadav.
