I respect Gautam Buddha as a person who revived the need for meditation and building compassion for all forms of lives in this world. I have no doubt that he was an enlightened soul who was also capable of uplifting the spirits of others around him as well.

But I have wondered since long time back that why he never advocated vegeterianism as a way of life. I don't understand how we can be compassionate when we don't understand (or pretend to not understand) how the animals feel while  going under the blade just for the sake of our tongues. If we just ignore this topic while we are at the dining table next time, how can we become compassionate to other lives?

This is just my thought, just came out spontaneously when I saw this thread.

Sorry if I've offended anyone.
