I am not a fitness expert but I have some knowlegede about fitness, nutrition and health. I am a student of Nutrition and Health. I just submitted a case report on weight reduction of overweight people.

What do you mean by getting int shape? Does that mean loosing some weight? If so,

Look up at what you eat.
Energy Intake and Energy Expenditure should be balanced at normal condition. Just doing excersie may not reduce your weight. Look your diet. When you are planning weight loss, make sure your Energy Intake is less than energy expenditure.

Foods:
Avoid sugary drinks. (Diet Coke should be fine) Stick to water. ( Milk if you like and want to change) Juices are ok but you need to know the sugar content.
NO JUNK FOODS. They are rocket fuels. Avoid ICECREAM, CRIPS, CHOCLATES, McDonalds, KFC etc
Eat more wholemeal and unprocessed foods.
Low Fat diet.
Stick to salad and fruits for snacks.
Our dal bhat is a good dinner option but you should eat atleast 3 hours before you sleep. Check the amount of fat and salt in your curry though.

NEVER KEEP YOURSELF HUNGY, ITS UNHEALTHY. EAT REGULARLY BUT CHOOSE THE HEALTHY OPTIONS LIKE FRUITS AND VEGETABLE.

Excersize:
You said u like out door activities.
Cycling is very good. Cylcling burns more calories than walking.
Running 3-4 times a week for about one hour helps a lot.
Swimming once or twice a week.
Sex is another good excercise (if you prefer)
Dancing. ( Just put loud music and throw your body, make your body sweat)

And add these to your regualr daily activities:

Use Stairs rather than lifts or Escalators.
Walk when you go for shopping (if possible)
Stand while you are at bus/train.

I think these should help your plan.
