Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has no option than to resign immediately not just from the Government but also from his post of President of the Nepali Congress (NC).

It is his incompetency that led the very poor showing of Nepali Congress in the Constituent Assembly. It is because of his stubbornness that the Nepali Congress quit its original principles: Constitutional Monarchy and Hindu Nation.

Without their base principles, the Nepali Congress had to follow the Extreme left, Maoists' principle of Federal Socialist Republic. The Nepali people thought it better to vote for the propounder, Maoist than the follower, Nepali Congress. At the same time, the Nepali people held Unified Marxist-Leninist (UML) responsible for the mismanagement of Nepali affairs. The UML has been the most opportunistic party after the advent of democracy especially, the role of its General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal to stick to power did everything possible undermining the slow transformation of UML into democratic party has been most undemocratic.

Thus, it is wise if he also tenders his resignation from the position of UML General Secretary. However, it is up to the communist cadres to decide upon the UML future. As far as the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is concerned, all people favoring democracy in Nepal have a right to seek his resignation both from the Government and the Nepali Congress party. He is the one who should be blamed for pushing Nepal towards the almost failed state, and pushing Nepali Congress into present position.

It is time for the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to take a leave from all responsibilities. The recent political development clearly indicates he is not a hero but an opportunist villain. He must ask his colleague Mr. Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, former Prime Minister to take charge of the Nepali Congress as President for sometime before handling party affairs to the new generation. Mr. Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, then, has to invite all former Nepali Congress cadets to come back to the mother party and rejuvenate its original principles to fight the extreme left.

Nepali Congress has to assimilate all former panchas and other small democratic parties into its umbrella if they are serious about to follow the principles propounded by the great leader late B. P. Koirala, multi party democracy and Constitutional Monarchy.

Now, the future existence of Nepali Congress lies upon an immediate resignation of the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala from his posts of Prime Minister and Party President followed by the takeover of charge by the former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and who in turn has to cut-off all relations with the extreme left forces, the Communist party of Nepal- Maoists. Otherwise, the Nepali Congress is likely to face the former panchas conditions.
