Hurray,

>But let's not give more credit to Maoists than they deserve.

Absolutely.

But what you wrote should also mean,

“Let's not give less credit to Maoists than they deserve.”

Right ?

Now the question is, how to determine how much credit Maoists should get ? Or who is to determine that, to begin with ?

That brings us to the election of CA.

Needless to say, the voters are going to tell us what they collectively think about the Maoist. And we the voters or non-voters individuals, no matter how much more intelligent we might be than an average voter, must accept and respect that verdict in every sense and purpose. Hoina ta ?

So the moment of truth is coming.

That said, I agree with you that crime is crime. One’s crime does not justify or clear other’s crime. And I would add that the issue of the human right abuses by Maoist and the state has not been touched yet (both as a popular agenda as well as the agenda of the peace process). We should not be frustrated about that yet. It will be addressed and dealt. Everywhere it is a standard procedure to deal the most difficult issue at last during the peace process. The same is happening with us. So the moment of justice will come.

A lot of us, particularly Sajha posters, argue that Maoists must not be allowed in the power not to let them suppress or influence the issue of abuses whenever it is going to be raised.

I think on the contrary.

I think it will be more helpful to keep the Maoist bound with political and legal obligation of justice than, let’s say, let them roam outside (they might run away and disappear) of power when it come to the process of delivering justice.

So, we should not think otherwise when Maoist or whoever must represent the HR abuse of the state comes to share the power.

The moment of justice is yet to come and it shall come no matter what.

In other countries, passage of 20-30 years since the abuse took place too has not prevented the victims to bring the culprits to justice. Why should we lose the hope ?
