Building Solidarity: Gaddar in support of Gorkhaland

New Delhi. 28.02.2008. The struggle for a separate state of Gorkhaland spread wider in the national capital with Gaddar's slogan, "Jai Telengana, Jai Gorkhaland.' In response to the call given by the Forum for Separate States, a large contingent of delegates from Telengana arrived at New Delhi this morning, and rallied at Jantar Mantar for the introduction and the subsequent adoption of Telengana formation bill in the Parliament. Their star campaigner Gaddar, a revolutionary balladeer, and other delegates later performed a cultural show through which they highlighted their demand. In the same platform, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh also campaigned for Gorkhaland. Apart from the leaders and the members of the Parisangh, Madan Tamang (AIGL), D. K. Bomzan (GRC), Gopal feb29atjnu01100Singh Chettri (TMC), Dr. G.S. Yonzone (BJP) were also present at Jantar Mantar alongwith youth and students. A large section of Gorkhaland supporters from Delhi, further, got enthused when Gaddar extended his solidarity and raised slogan for Gorkhaland with the campaigners. Though the majority of the supporters were students and youth unaffiliated to any organisation including the Parisangh, their presence was in response to highlight the mass agitation in the Hills and to spread the campaign for Gorkhaland in the national capital. Later, C. K. Shreshta of BGP, putting aside his party affiliation addressed the gathering along with the supporters highlighting the issue of Gorkhaland.

Later in the night, the Democratic Students Union, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in association with thefeb29atjnu02100 Telengana Research Scholars Association, Osmania University, organised a 'revolutionary cultural' programme at JNU campus where a performance was given by Gaddar and his troupe. The students of JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in support of the demand for Gorkhaland extended their solidarity to the ongoing Telengana movement. In the three hour long performance, the students stood with their banner "WE WANT GORKHALAND" and raised slogans for their cause along with Gaddar and the supporters of the Telengana movement. At the end of the performance, Gaddar welcomed the students to share the dais amid the "Jai Telengana, Jai Gorkhaland" affirmations. The campaign received a positive response from the University students.
