Prachanda reaffirms his presidential dream Despite the jeers his claim to become the "first president of republican Nepal" has received from within the SPA, Maoist chairman Prachanda has once again articulated his presidential dream.
Speaking at a programme in Lalitpur on Saturday, Prachanda said his party has vowed to make him the first president of republican Nepal. He clarified that he was not in a position to reject the proposal made by two senior party leaders – Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya – at the recent meeting of the central committee, projecting him as the “first president”. Prachanda said that the first development agreement during his presidency would be with Norway. The Maoist strongman further said he would root out feudal culture and feudal property relations and turn Nepal as one of the richest countries in the world within two decades by utilising the vast natural resources available here. While the Maoist party has not clearly told the voters as to what model of governance it is going for, it has fervidly floated its election slogan: “Let’s Make Prachanda the First President of Republican Nepal”. Prachanda will contest the CA election from Rolpa and Kathmandu. nepalnews.com mk Feb 16 08 | ||||||
