If the politicians believe in democracy, if they believe they are doing a good job and the people will support them, they should hold a referendum on the abolition of democracy. Ten years ago, people would have overwhelimnigly voted against the aboliton of democracy but after a string of unpopular and undemocratic moves by the king I would say there is a pretty good chance that the monarchy would be abolished.

Personally, I am a supporter of monarchy. I believe in constitutional monarchy where neither the king / queen or their family members are above the constitution. Salaried, without stipends, and fully taxed. Subject to each and every law a common citizen is subjected to. That's an ideal monarchy. But if the monarchs start inching towards tyranny and totalitarianism, then the people are better off without such monarchs.

At thsi moment, the problem in Nepal is that supporting any one among the king, the politicians or the maoists would be like jumping from a frying pan into the fire.
