He was a good friend of Nepal. He helped many of people in Nepal and committed to Nepal whole his life.  I am sure many Nepali people have lots of respect for him.

Once, few years back, while traveling back to USA from Nepal one elderly white guy was just in front of me in a looong security check point line.  His age was evident in this slow pace of walking. I felt I have seen this person somewhere. After picking my memory for a while I realized he is the Edmund Hillary.  Police man hushed him to the padding area in his authorative voice (I am sure most of you guys have experience how security personal behave in Nepal). And he started padding him and scanning for weapons like every body else. I felt bad and I though better he deserves better. I am not saying he should not go through security check at all but he should have some privilege. Nepal should have given him VIP status.

He was very compliant and was not complaining at all. But, I was, in my mind, I can hear police bark at him “Hand… spread”.

He always considers himself an ordinary man and I am sure he never actively seeked VIP status. But we Nepalese should have though of that.   Remember one western director making a big fuss in Media for not getting VIP status, he was probably just making One documentary of Nepal, But Ed had been there for nepali people whole his life.

Anyway I just want to honor him in his death. May his Soul live in peace.
