KATHMANDU, Jan 10 - A special parliamentary panel Thursday unanimously accepted Rajendra Prasad Koirala and Tahir Ali Ansari as permanent judges of the Supreme Court.

The interim parliament hearing special committee approved their nominations after conducting a hearing today.

The House panel had started the hearing last Monday.

The Judicial Council had recommended their names a few weeks ago.

Both the judges will take charge of their offices after being sworn-in by Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri in near future.

Members of the panel had urged the Judicial Council to be extra cautious while nominating the judges after the council nominated Pawan Kumar Ojha along with Koirala and Ansari.

Ojha, who had supported the royal regime, was forced to retire after the panel did not accept his nomination.

Singh also accepted as Nepal’s envoy to India

Similarly, the House panel has approved the nomination of Durgesh Man Singh as Nepali ambassador to India.

On December 30, the cabinet had decided to forward Singh’s name to a parliamentary hearing committee for its approval.

Singh has already worked as Nepali ambassador to Belgium.

The government had decided to drop the name of Nepali Congress leader Shailaja Acharya after she fell ill.

Acharya’s nomination had also fanned controversy with the parliamentary hearing committee divided over her name.

She was charged with not opposing the King’s direct rule in the country
