This ain’t a sports story.

There was this team, down south. A double A baseball team, with a glorious history but a shameful present. It had been a while the team had won a match, any match.

The negativity transcended from the management to the coaches to the players. The environment in the bullpen was pitiful and in the field was disgraceful. The locker room was filled with violence and violations, the management office was no better.

The team had good farm players, but they would either leave the team within few years or would be traded to a better ball park for money. The players in the roster almost looked incapable of even beating a local village team, let alone a high school team.

Oh, did I mention the violence amongst the players? The pitcher had a beef against the catcher. The center-fielder couldn’t stand the sight of the designated hitter. The constant fight amongst the players was the only sight enjoyed by the ticket holders. The viewers would be placing bets for the fight they were going to see among the ball players, as the ball game result was always predictable.

Something had to be done. A historical lesson was sought. The neighboring ball club always got out of this situation by instigating rivalry against other ball clubs. A common enemy was thus necessary. Who could be the common enemy then???

The coach ofcourse. He had the team’s mandate and he didn’t improve the team. Whether or not the team was capable of winning any matches by themselves, that didn’t matter. The coach was made the scape goat, remember it was partly his fault too. The players came together against this “common enemy.”

I am hearing from the grapevine that the coach is getting sacked around April 2008. The players are united together right now. I could careless where the coach goes, I just don’t hope the team doesn’t falter apart and start fighting again after the “common enemy” is gone.
