The incident took place at around 1:30 pm. Over 400 people, who had gathered at a temple in Dahachaur, plunged into the river after the bridge collapsed. They had gathered at the temple for worshipping on the occasion of Dhanya Poornima.

Around 100 people managed to swim ashore and saved their lives, reports said.

Security forces have been sent to the incident area for search and rescue work.
