The issue of red sandlewood (?) रक्तचन्दन is a matter of talk in every corner in Nepal. But, I don't know why this issue is getting so much attention these days.

If 5 trucks of sandlewood is caught in the course of smuggling, then there must be other 100s of trucks of sandlewood passing through, because those smugglers are nothing than profit seeking businessman, who dare to preach the legal boundaries for a little extra money. Hmm, 100s of trucks of sandlewood ? wow, that's too much, and certainly that much of sandlewood doesn't exist in Nepalese forest. So, they must have been brought from South west India where Virappan used to rule until few years back. The so called smuggled sandlewood travel swiftly through inter-state borders, checkpoints and custom offices, but are caught in between KTM and Barhabise. Hey, don't tell me this is because of YCL of the region. This is certainly a bottleneck that has some relation with the groups envolved in power struggle in Nepal. I fail to understand why YCL can't stop these bad woods before or immediately after crossing border line.

It seems YCL want to stop this business in the name of SMUGGLE. They were criticized for misusing their power. They (YCL) handed over the captured sandlewood to district forest office. But the staffs over the forest office helped to rob it back. The YCL submitted the captured sandlewood to police, but they were stolen from the premises of police office. The YCL attempted to burn them in Tundikhel, but the state sponsored fire-brigedd came to snatch half burnt sandlewood. Wow, what a great war between YCL and Sandlewood smugglers ?

I fail to understand why exporting the sandlewood is SMUGGLING at first? Why is it different from exporting carpet or Yarshagumba? If this business is not in our legal system, why not bring them into legal system and apply proper taxation polity and promote swift and profitable import/export of sandlewood? Doing this will certainly benefit country and businessmen, isn't it?

Also, I don't understand why chinese people are paying so high for this wood, where they actually are using them? If they are making huge profit out of these woods, say by extracting precious chemicals out of it, then why not we try to extract those precious chemicals in Nepal, and export finished product rather than smuggle raw material?

Ultimately, my deep surprise is that why politics is attached behind this? what is there so great that this matter is shaking political ground?

Please enlighten me.
