Maoists abduct UML leader, threaten teachers

Kantipur Report

BHOJPUR, Oct 11 - Demanding a large amount of money as donation, Maoists took Debiram Chaulagain, district committee member of CPN-UML Bhojpur, under control Wednesday morning. He was however released a few hours later.

District police office Bhojpur said Maoists abducted Chaulagain from his residence at Deurali VDC at around 5 am and took him to Jhyaupokhari.

According to UML lawmaker Sherdhan Rai, Maoists demanded 100,000 rupees from Chaulagain who was in charge of local Turke-Jhyaupokhari road construction project. When Chaulagain refused to provide the money from the project's budget, the Maoists demanded Chaulagain pay from his own pocket, Rai said.

UML district office informed that Maoists freed him after some hours from their liaison office in Jhyaupokhari.

However, Maoists district leader Rajesh Khatiwada claimed that he was called to the office for discussion.

Similarly, Maoists issued threats to teachers Bharat Khatri and Bishnu Khatri at Domane VDC demanding large sums of money as donation. They also demanded 100,000 each from UML cadres Hek Khatri and Pashupati Khatri in the village.
