This is very unfortunate. It's not a good thing that an innocent girl lost her life, and it's not a good thing that because of one mistake Tenzings whole life is now messed up. I am not sure how the legal systems weighs in intentional murder to accidental killing. I am sure there are grounds for leniency if it's the guy's first crime or has a clean record with the police. Everyone drives under the influence once in a while and we don't want to be excessively hypocritical about condemning all drunk drivers to hell for all eternity. Chances are your immediate family does it occassionally, your friends and even you probably have done it sometimes. It's not a big deal until something bad happens like in Tenzings case. Anyone who's driven drunk are all potential killers so would it make sense for everyone to surrender to the police? NO. And the reason is because alcohol affects everyone differently. Some get highly agitated and wreckless while some get calm and sleepy. The point is if alcohol increases your agitation level and you have been told this by your friends or you realize it yourself, then for you driving drunk is a crime because you lose your cool when you are drunk. There are some who can drink a few beer and still have a good composure. These I think are less accident prone than the ones who get hyperactive with alcohol. Lesson from this incident is that you should not drive drunk - which everyone knows already. But because of circumstances beyond ones control, sometimes it so happens that you are presented with a circumstance whereby you are presented with the ability to drink and drive. You have to make a choice. Perhaps nothing will happen for 20 such episodes. In the 21st instance, lets say you hit a pedestrian who was not following the law and walking haphazardly in drunk condition. In this case, if you were sober, then it would be the pedestrians fault. But if you are drunk, then you are at fault and can be prosecuted for murder. So friends drink wisely, and use common sense before driving.
