I have always been very proud of these young negotiators. I only wish someone could do something to ease their pain. Most of them start smoking and drinking at a young age and lose their health in no time. Not to mention the dust and pollution that eats them. But one thing always struck me was their competitiveness and their fight for constant survival. In ratnapark they are always luring customers to go into their bus/van first and really sweet talk you into this. They are very smart with the money and calculation. There is no point of opening a NGO and thinking of helping them. Actually the best anyone can do is to bring the best they already have - good marketing sense and their 'go getter' attitude. I wish they could go to a evening school or something where they are fed, have clothes to wear, can interact with similar kids and also learn few hours of basic stuff. But of course our NGOs in Nepal is as stereotypical as we all Nepalis and can never thing outside the box. All they want is to get a lot of money in the name of these kids and give them occasional something which is entirly useless. I think instead of feeling pity for them, we should feel proud that despite adversity, these kids are able to feed and live for themselves. With little mentoring they could conquer the world.
