Stupendous, I totally agree with you. I also don't think its quite right to promote him as representing Nepal/Nepali nationalism. He was born and raised in India, and is a citizen of India. He, in no way, represents Nepal. (And this is my opinion. Feel free to disagree.) However, nationalism is very difficult to define. Nepalis tend to be nationalists because we are a small nation, and we are led to believe that India is to be blamed for all that happens in Nepal. So when we see a contestant in a popular Indian TV show who speaks owr language and who looks like us, we go out of our way to support him not because he is talented, but becuase, we assume that his winning the contest translates into Nepal victory over India, and mistakenly, we believe that it will enhance our prestige and reputation as a nation. To us its like beating them at their own game. To sum up, what we are consiously or unconsiously expressing is our own insecurity vis-a-vis India. And again, this is what I think and I could be way off. Please note: Its not my intention to hurt those who support Prashant. Commenting on nationalism is quite difficult thing to do, even for the students of political science. There could be thousands of reasons to vote for Prashant, and I don't claim to know them all. What I wrote above reflects my views as a student of Politics and International Relations. That's all.
