"LooTeKuKuR: he may be indian in paper (passport) but his blood is nepali. it may be just that his ancestors at some point in the past migrated to darjeeling...even darjeeling was in nepal not so long ago for that matter." this is where lack of knowledge in history comes in. Darjeeling was NEVER part of Nepal...it's mere wishful thinking on part of illiterate Nepalis! a friend once told me if Nepal had Darjeeling, Nepal would be a developed country. He obviously didn't like what I told him but here it is: "I am not too sure if Nepal would be a developed country by having Darjeeling but Darjeeling would certainly become PAAKHE NATION under Nepal." It's just that a lot of Nepali people migrated to Darjeeling and other states in India notably Assam during the British regime to work as labourers and tea plantation workers. I wouldn't wonder if tomorrow you start claiming Assam too as part of your greater Nepal...and then Sikkim and Dehradun and so on. It's a long list! You might as well claim every part of India wherever people of Nepali origin reside to be amalgamated with Nepal. Now...is that a fair proposition we are looking at! think about it!! It's sheer greatness on India's part that it is not biased towards any community...most of the times. Talking about people of Nepali origin...you have bhaichung bhutia and sunil chhetri playing for indian national soccer team, you had another chhetri gentleman who was the indian hockey goalkeeper in the '80s, you have udit narayan and manisha koirala eeking out successful careers in bollywood. colonel lalit rai winning a major bravery award for kargil war, and now prashant making himself proud at indian idol...not to mention hundreds of thousands of nepali-speaking people who have done well be it in the armed forces, music and entertainment, corporate sector...you name it! all these people are successful not because they are of Nepali origin but because they had the talent and potential to be so. If you know a little about India...you would realize that India became a nation by default because of the British regime. A lot of persians migrated from present day Iran hundreds of years ago. Sindhis migrated from Pakistan during the partition of India. Hindu Bengalis migrated from present day Bangladesh during India's partition as it became East Pakistan. All these people are no less Indians than any others. The same goes for people of Nepalese origin. Yes, they speak Nepali at home but it's just a language we are talking about! In India, an opportunity cannot be provided to a Nepali speaking person because he is so. At the same time, an opportunity will not be denied to him because he speaks Nepali. It's merit, talent, contacts and above all...destiny! To end it all, I can understand people of Darjeeling supporting Prashant because he is a local but people from Nepal supporting him makes no sense at all! Prashant has no connection with Nepal and vice versa. Ask him about Nepal and he will draw a blank! All I can request is...let the Nepali-speaking people in India live in peace and not help attract hatred for them from other communities in India. That's the last thing that they ask for! You insult the people of Darjeeling by calling them 'Chhiattare (76)', characterless and what not. But just remember, they don't say any wrong to you people. For them, YOU DON'T EVEN EXIST'. Okay, peace!!
