Instead, as soon as he arrived in New York, all he did was lobby relentlessly to acquire a job at the UN. HOW CAN A NATION APPOINT A PERSON WHO SIMPLY IS SELF-SEEKING AND DOES NOTHING TO SERVE THE NATION'S INTEREST? 2) On his first day in New York as the ambassador, Sharma purchased a $500 briefcase. He paid for this briefcase with government money by saying he was carrying government papers son the government has to give him something comfortable to carry all the papers. First, Nepal government has no budget for such things. Second Sharma never returned the briefcase. Sharma's used government funds to pay all his personal bills during his tenure. All of his grocery bills and other bills were paid by the Embassy. Even more, the Embassy even paid for his wife's personal item like toiletries. What is even more shocking is that there were bills paid to naked girl bars which Sharma frequently visited. HOW CAN A NATION KNOWINGLY APPOINT A PERSON THAT MISUSES NATIONAL FUNDS? 3) When he was ambassador, he committed a lot of illegal acts. Of many, he hired his nephew as a consular assistant and his brother as a helper for the official residence. The nephew had no visa, so he had illegal status. Thus, there was an illegal immigrant granting visas and harassing other illegal Nepali immigrants when the latter went to renew their expired passports. Everyone in New York is aware of how corrupt Sharma and his nephew were. Nepali community members had made serious allegations against Sharma and his nephew. The duo charged Sherpas and Tibetans one thousand dollar per person to get a new passport. Also, most Nepalis who were illegal in USA were asked to pay thousand dollars to renew their passports. One foreign ministry official, who worked under Sharma, believes that Sharma and his nephew bagged close to three or four hundred thousand dollars by granting passports for illegal Nepali immigrants in the US . Sharma's brother on the other hand got salary from Nepal government, but his brother worked another job. His brother did absolutely nothing but, still received a few hundred dollars of free money from Nepal government. HOW CAN A NATION KNOWINGLY APPOINT A PERSON THAT IS CORRUPT AND HAS VIOLATED INTERNATIONAL LAWS? 4) No Nepali ambassador's wife had worked in USA . Sharma's wife was the only ambassador's wife to work at grocery store in Embassy history. Such act clearly damaged Nepal 's image at the UN. HOW CAN A NATION APPOINT A PERSON WHO HAS NO CONCERN FOR THE NATION'S IMAGE? 5) In 2004, after years of lobbying, Sharma finally got a job at UN. After he got the position at the UN, he was supposed to leave his position as the ambassador because the laws and regulations of the UN are such that no employee can be simultaneously holding two positions. However, he continued to act as the ambassador and took salary and other benefits from the Nepal government. So, Sharma got UN salary and salary from Nepal government. He continued to live in the house provided by Nepal government. For eight months, the government kept on paying him and for his wife's personal items. Only when this issue was published in some paper, he left the position and went to live somewhere else. Altogether, Sharma cost the government $57,826.33 during the eight months as an illegal ambassador. All the bills are with Foreign Ministry and finance ministry. HOW CAN A NATION APPOINT A PERSON WHO CONSCIOULY VIOLATES THE LAWS AND REGULATIONS? 6) Currently, Sharma is being investigated for his role in a multi-million dollar contract scandal. He along with other three members of his unit at ACABQ at the UN, were believed to have leaked inside information about contracts to an Indian logistics firm for a few million dollars. HOW CAN A NATION APPOINT A PERSON WHO IS BEING INVESTIGATED FOR CORRUPTION CHARGES BY THE WORLD'S LARGEST INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION? 7) Sharma is also a sexual predator. During his position at the Finance Ministry, he was accused of getting a female section officer pregnant. He also had an affair with a typist at the Foreign Ministry. When his wife found out, she was going to leave him but before she could leave, he was appointed as ambassador for UN. When he was ambassador at UN, there was a Philipino secretary. Sharma sexually exploited her by promising her of visa sponsorship for her family. When her family was granted the US visa, she left the job to work elsewhere. Even during his tenure in Delhi , he was known amongst his colleagues to be the "lady-lover" and a frequent costumer of a local brothel. HOW CAN A NATION APPOINT A SEXUAL PREDATOR AS AMBASSADOR? These facts known to many. If you don't believe this, you can go ahead and investigate a little further and the truth will be uncovered. There is enough evidence in the account books at the finance ministry and the foreign ministry to prove this. Plus, colleagues at the foreign ministry and UN can be used to verify further. Knowing all these facts, it would be a disaster if Sharma was appointed as the ambassador. It would put Nepal 's integrity and image at risk.
