Robinium, I think Deitels' books are much straight forward than any other book on programming. We had to use "Problem Solving with C++" by Walter Savitch which gets bit more confusing once you hit the data structures -- but data structures are meant to be confusing, or at least thats what I think. You should give Savitch's book a try. May be you will find it less confusing than Deitel.
