जस्ले जे लेखे पनि हुन्छ। मौका एही हो। फेरी हामी नेपालि हरु पनि जस्ले जे लेखे पनि पत्यायी हाल्छउ/ My point is: nobody dares to criticize Abiral because of the senstivenes s of the issue, even when you know most of it is pure BS. In the changed context if anyone, any true/real historian tries to contradict him then this whole mysansar+kantipur+civil society gang will label him a royalist, reactionary and all that. This is one of the reasons that many people who know or who can prove that Abiral is wrong stay quiet. Since the culture of healthy debate and constructive criticism are yet to develop in Nepali society, and people tend to associate everything with politics, people like abiral+ crackpot historians can get away with whatever crackpot stuff they write. Its simple. Of course people elsewhere too come up with these sort of crackpot theories at times, but those theories do not get national recogniztion and their "findings" do not get an inch of space in national dailies. The National Enquirer takes care of all those fascinating stuff. In Nepal, The Kathmandu Post which is our LA Times and NY Times and all the times/dailies/chronicals between LA and NY, without veryfying the stuff, publishes the excerpts of Abiral's book. In other words IT (TKP) endorsed it and everybody said wah! wah! kya baat hai and abiral became a historian overnight. Just as narayan Wagle became a Mahan Writer with his cafe book. No one dares to challenge, no one dares to criticize.. this is the biggest problem with our democracy. Nepal does not have a tabloid press except Kamana, so maybe mysansar can fill that void. But again, do we need another tabloid given that TKP and others, at times, have been endorsing and promoting crackpot, out-of-this world whacko stuff?
