Khadka, Gupta to be investigated under detention:- The empowered Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) dramatically Wednesday evening decided to continue investigations against former ministers Khum Bahadur Khadka and Jayaprakash Prasad Gupta under detention, the Commission said. They were taken into custody immediately after 6.30 PM. They had previously repeatedly deposed before the Commission as free men. The CIAA interrogated former ministers Khum Bahadur Khadka and Jayaprakash Prasad Gupta Wednesday. The CIAA said Wednesday two former officials of the water resources ministry were arrested for investigation for charges of corruption along with ministers Khadka and Gupta. Narayan Bahadur Thapa, then chief of Bakraha river control project and Amodanda Mishra, then director of a water project were arrested. The investigating authority also questioned Devendra Wagle, the son of minister for Physical Planning Chiranjivi Wagle in the dismissed government of prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Japaprakash Prasad Gupta The father and son are being questioned for giving incomplete property documents as the CIAA investigates complaints that their wealth is disproportionate to their income. Khadka gave his deposition for awarding a Rs.110 million contract for the construction of the Bakraha river control project eight years ago as minister for water resources in the government of then prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala. The CIAA has been questioning former communications minister Gupta in the governments of Koirala and Deuba for contracts awarded in granting TV operating licenses to a private operator and alleged irregularities in granting licenses for the import of mobile telephones. Supporters of Khadka and Chiranjivi Wagle misbehaved with reporters Wednesday covering the questioning.
