I love this Dr. Ruit, for his great achievements and dedications. Also I have my own personal attachment with him. Had he was not the person I accidently reached to in 1991, one of my eye might have been blind now. The story is a bit long, but in short he was the doctor who took out a metal piece from my eye corona that pierced the eye membrane, passed the eye lense and was gone deep inside up to mid of the way between eye surface and retina. It was a metal piece jumped off from a grinder machines in electro-mechanical lab, a very sharp edged small piece. I did not even notice when in struck my eye, but later it started to give me immense pain. I asked friends to look into my eye, but there was nothing he could find. From outside it looked very fine. After 5-10 minutes, it started paining so bad that I even could not open my eyes. Fortunately I was at tripureswor waiting for my loved trolley bus at that time. I decided to go to an eye clinic instead of riding the parked trolley bus to go to home. Then I entered one nearest eye clinic without knowing anything about the doctor's name and schedule over there. Luckily it was Dr Ruit's clinic, with no patient at all, and he was just reading a magazine. He took about 30 minutes to find the problem, and he was able to detect the foreign object inserted deep into my left eye. He explained me - you are in emergeny, you need an immidiate operation if you want to save your eye. Oh my god, what was the case? Then he explained me how fatal the problem could be if I were late to consult an eye specialist or if I were consulting a mediocre eye doctor rather than a specialist like him. Such a problem was (and is)extremely difficult to diagnose as the foreign object was not seen from outside. The other fact was that even the victim (myself) didn't know a foreign object was in. Most ordinary doctors would probably give some sort of eye drop or pain reliever etc. as a temporary relief. But there was a sharp metal piece entered exactly from the central hollow of the eye lense without harminig the surrounding lence and landed at side wall without touching the retina. The object tore out the thin membrane but it was not noticed by me. The expansion and contraction of eye-lense muscles caused the sharp metal piece move up and down gradually cutting the tissue inside, which was causing me immense pain. At one hand the unsterilized metal piece was cutting my tissue gradually, and on the other hand it could start rusting inside eye with the contact of eye fluids and liquids coming out from the cut tissues. The chain reaction will end up to a certain blindness. Holy god, what a danger. I agreed immidiately for the operation, and asked him what should I do. Dr. Ruit said "it is a minor operation, should not take more than 15 minute. I will put medicine to expand eye lense, and then try to pick up the object and see how much it has damaged inside." Next, I was worrying about money as I had only 25 rupees in my pocket but I was more worried about my eye. So, I didn't talk about money with him. He made some preparations in 10 minutes, and then started his work on my eye. I did not feel any pain when he was working. Probably he has used enough pain killers or what, I do not know, I just know he poured some liquids, and then kept working with his tools. When he was done, he was happy. He told , 'It was easier than I expected, and it has not done much harm to your eye. There was only a piece, I took it out, few tissues are cut and scraches remain inside but they will be recovered soon. The metal piece has torn out your eye membrane, which will be hard to recover. However, it should not make you much difference if you do not expose to dusty area.' He gave me some eye-drops and asked me not to read write, watch movies etc. that could cause stress to eye for a week. When I saw the foreign object it was a triagular sized metal piece (Carbon Steel) of about 1.5 mm sides have sharp vortex and edges. His assistant asked me to pay 400 Rs, but I had only 25 Rs. I explained the case to him asking if I could pay few days later. He was not ready for that. Then the doctor came out at reception, and I explaine him my situation. He allowed me to pay whatever I could and bring rest in few days. I paid 20 Rs and promised to come back in a week. Few days later, I went to pay him, with a word of thanks and a card. He was there and asked me how was I doing. He again checked my eyes and confirmed no problem in recovery. When I wanted to pay his dues, he said, he would not charge me the rest of the money. WOW, so great. He did not accept taking his fee, instead he offered me tea and very nice chat. He told, he felt very happy to take out the metal piece, and find me having great recovery within few days, coming back to pay him as I promised etc stuffs. Though he did not tell me, I understood, if I was not in his hand at that moment, I would have been suffering with a great problem. What a great doctor.
