From a man's perspective as we all know girlfriend is primarily for "sex" (For 9/10 of us) and to share your so called feeling and thoughts etc... or you know go out together holding hand in the mall or someone to sit next to while watching movies and cuddling.. sex is enjoyed by both gender.
