Komal Oli Suspended From Radio Nepal Komal Oli has been working as a news anchor at Radio Nepal since 2049 BS. Recently, she had attended the birthday bash of King Gyanendra and now, she is paying the price for it. She has been suspended from presenting news at Radio Nepal. This action was taken last Sunday. Though she has been prohibited from doing the news, she has been going to the office regularly and updating her attendance. Meanwhile, there is talk of her being transferred to another department. She states, "I have been suspended from doing news and this action was not taken by Radio Nepal but by the Nepal Government. I feel this action is very illogical, bizarre and was totally unexpected. Everyone has the right to wish 'happy birthday' to people they want to. At the end of the day, the King is also a human being and yes, I did wish him on the day. But, this does not mean that the Nepal Government takes action on my personal decision. It is my right to wish him and it is not fair to take decisions against me just because I used my right as a human being to wish the King on his birthday." She further informs, "I was not the only one who was present at the King's Birthday function. Other journalists were also there and I am also a journalist and the invitation form the palace also was addressed personally to me. If they had officially announced or circulated a notice to the staff at Radio Nepal saying not to go, I would not have attended the program. However, they did not alert us beforehand. How are we supposed to know?" She further adds, "During the autocrat rule, many government officials were also associated with different political parties. However, during that time, the government didn't put any restrictions on these staff members. Now, we say that we have a loktantrik government and during this time, violating the rights of others is not done. I knew beforehand that there would be an issue if I attended this party. And, before I made up my mind to go, I referred to the Interim Constitution. Here, clause 12, sub clause 2, mentions 'No Person Shall Be Deprived Of His Personal Liberty Saved In Accordance With Law'. According to sub clause 3, 'Every Citizen Shall Have The Freedom Of Opinion And Expression'. Only, after going through it, I went to the function. Nepal Government has many aspects to work on such as poverty elimination, health sector and development in many fields. I wonder why they were after me when they have so many other more important responsibilities to fulfill." She shares that she had presented her case to Nepal Journalist Association (Radio Nepal) and also to the Karmachari Sangh Sangathan. "But, they told her that they could not do anything against this since the decision was made by the Information Minister". Komal Oli shares that since Radio Nepal has decided to transfer her to another department there, she has told them that before they shift her to another department she would like to take a two month break. During this time, she has decided to do some musical tour. According to her, on July 26 she will be leaving for Japan, where she is scheduled to perform at a few shows. After she returns, she will be going to Korea, UK and Bahrain. Here's wishing the 'dynamic' folk singer all our best wishes! http://www.fursad.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1184530340&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1& #################################################### Where r we heading to democracy or dictatorship ??
