Hulaki I've been reading your postings and wanted to reply to you. I am sure you are aware that people of different clans behave differently. They have different priorities; different growing up; different culture; etc. Newars have been in the valley for hundreds of years. In fact I am sure you are aware that the valley used to belong to the newars. The valley was ruled by Malla kings until it was taken over by PNShah. During that period, Kathmandu valley was the most affluent kingdom out of the whole Nepal that PNS united. That is why he chose to make Ktm the capital. Ktm newars used to flourish on the business model which was sustained under the guidance of the benovolent king. The newar farmers and the newar businessmen had a prosperous relationship with each other and other class of newar workers and newar government. It was the golden age. After PNShah took over the ktm valley, he and his posse saw what their own kingdom had been missing - the prosperity. Since that time Ktm valley has been plundered by the immigrants from outside. Not all immigrants were/are bad or have wrong intentions, but most of them see prosperity for the first time and they do their best to grab whatever they can in the least possible time. Their propensity to grab the most in least possible time has defined the world of politics in Nepal. Since the government is in Ktm, the netas who come from all over Nepal see the prosperity of ktm and they want a piece of the pie so they try to get it by any means possible in the least possible time. That is why we see politicians coming from outside the valley amassing huge wealth during their time in power. Coming back to the showing of the bhoto, the newar population have been following the rules set to them by thier rulers. They are a peaceful lot. They try to work hard for their living. They don't want to get too much into politics which is now mostly full of people from outside the valley - for whom all that matters is to get a piece of the pie. Most Newars have houses in Ktm and family trees that extend to all over the valley. They are content with being able to do their own business and make a living. As far as they are concerned, the government is suppose to make the right decisions for the people. That is why they don't really care much who shows the bhoto or who pulls the kumari chariot. BUT, the reality of the situation is going way out of hand, ktm valley is being plundered by these opportunist politicians who are seeing prosperity for the first time and are willing to kill others to get what they want. We newars are a peaceful lot and I am not sure how long or what it takes for us to take to the streets, but once that happens then you can only keep your fingers crossed as to your own survival.
