Few years back, I accidently heard something about Nepal on NPR where they were discussing that in some society it's acceptable to lie and get away with it. One of the caller was an American who'd spent a considerable amount of time in Nepal and sharing his experience about Nepali culture. According to him, it's OK to tell lies among each other in Nepali culture and it has become complety acceptable for someone to lie cause there's no consequences as a society as whole, as opposed to modern Western Civilization, where lying is not the norm of the society(maybe not among individual). When I heard that, I was mad and furious then.It's a whole different story now. The guy not only was telling the truth, but he hit the nail right at the spot. There're lot of things we call as our culture, or has become a part of our culture, which needs to be abolished forever. Coming back to this posting, I once took some American friends to a cultural show knowing that there will be noise and chaos. But I was the one who was shocked, cause my friends were literally awe struck by people's behaviour and could not understand.With all the explanations I had, I still was unable to make them understand why we did it.Simply said - Rude and Disrespectful.Since then, I've never invited any of my friends to a Nepali gatherings. We think we're the most respectful, cultured people. But those are all BS. Having respects and culture only within a family and not exercising anything for the society are some of the root cause of these behaviours.
