JMTD, Here's the thing. Once you file for asylum, there are three outcomes! You get approved in 2 weeks , you get a recommended approval ( can take years to arrive ) ,and you get sent to court! Either way, you wont be illegally staying here! On top of all that, you'll get a SSN, Working permit too! Hence, after filing for asylum, there's no looking back! The worst is for the case to be sent to the court but even that's gonna take 3-4 years! hope that helps!
