I felt compelled to spit my opinions after going through some intriguing replies! First off, we all know that DV isn't an ordinary lottery! For some, Green Card means an opportunity to stay in the U.S. as long as he wants and he doesn't need to return back home but for many like myself, the benefits of the GreenCard are pretty immense which unfortunately not too many GC holders realize/utilize! A GC holder is eligible for financial aids/loans! S/he doesn't need to worry about joining Grad School and even the employers don't need to worry about sponsorship and also the hassles related to a F-1 Student Visa Holder getting H-1 Visa are eliminated! Well that's the way that I view at it! I wish ( and I'm sure many of us do ) that I had received the G.C. too so that I'd apply for Loans and stuffs to focus mainly on my schooling without being forced to work during my school life as much as I'm normally required to! But lets be fair in here! How many D.V. winners are really fortunate enough to come from a good family with a good financial abilities?! Ever wondered on the amount of loans that they take off banks and friends and families to come to the U.S. Do "they" have the luxury of thinking about attending school?! The answer is pretty simple-No. Like say..a guy from a village of Gorkha who'd been staying in Kathmandu for 4-5 years won the lottery! How'd he be able to come to the U.S.? By taking loans! Then once he gets to the U.S. would he be compelled to work his arse off to pay back the loans or would he bother to go to school!?!?! Surely, he'd have loved to go to school as well! I'm darn sure that MOST of the DV winners living in the U.S. know the value of a college education in stead of working in the deshis' stores but lets be realistic! They opt to work coz they can't afford to go to school because of the responsibilities towards their parents! Isn't that so?! As for this thread itself, I can understand your frustration w/ some DV winners bro! But I disagree with your statement on calling them Khates! MOST of the DV winners come from unstable financial backgrounds and hence they're compelled to work their arse off to support their families back home and while the people coming off financially good background might think that the DV winners should utilize the G.C. in a better way, I feel that they don't bother to do much because their hands are tied due to their responsibilities! Who wouldn't love to go to school and work part time in stead of working for over 80 hrs a week?! In the end, I urge you all to be sensitive before making these sorts of comments! It's all about the financial background bros! I'm sure that the DV winners might be hurt by these sorts of nonsense threads! I'd have perhaps been ok with the thread had you tried to mean "While most of the DV winners are ok, some act like jerks and khates"..but you saying most of them are khates is total bullshit!
