If a US citizen files an immigrant visa (I-130) for his immediate relative (parents or sibling), and if that application is taking a long time to process, can the relative apply and travel to US temporarily under any other visa (say, tourist visa) ? Would there be any "harm" in applying for the tourist visas anyway? If the tourist visas get rejected, would this cause any "adverse" impact to the immigrant visas that are already under process?
